Taxonomy

Hemipenthes was named by Loew (1869). It is extant.

It was assigned to Villini by Evenhuis and Greathead (1999).

H. dominicana, H. gabbroensis, H. provincialis, H. tertiaria, H. tertiarius

Synonyms

Anthrax tertiarius was named by Handlirsch (1907). Its type specimen is NHMW 1984/32/170 and is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Gabbro (Bosniaski collection), which is in a Messinian terrestrial horizon in Italy.

It was considered a nomen nudum by Handlirsch (1907), Evenhuis (1994) and Evenhuis and Greathead (1999).
