Semihaswellia was named by Canu and Bassler (1917) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1260]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Gigantoporidae by Bassler (1953) and Cheetham (1962); and to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002).
