Taxonomy
Culicites tertiarius was named by von Heyden (1862). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Rott (Krantz Bonn coll), which is in a MP 30 lacustrine - large shale in the Rott Formation of Germany.
It was recombined as Chaoborus tertiarius by Borkent (1978) and Borkent (2014).
