Tetraplaria was named by Tenison-Woods (1879) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Schizoporellidae by Brown (1958); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tetraplariidae by Cheetham (1972) and Bock (2006).
