Entoprocta was named by Nitsche (1869). It is extant.

It was reranked as the unranked clade Entoprocta by Edgecombe et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Trochozoa by Zrzavy et al. (1998); to Metazoa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Polyzoa by Edgecombe et al. (2011) and Nielsen (2012).
