Taxonomy
Beryx microcephalus was named by Agassiz (1837). Its type specimen is BMNH 4034, 4036, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Ctenothrissa microcephalus by Woodward (1901); it was recombined as Ctenothrissa microcephala by Woodward (1899), Woodward (1903) and Patterson (1964).
