Lingularia was named by Biernat and Emig (1993) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen K Sant Sepkoski's reference number: 1064].

It was assigned to Lingulida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lingulidae by Williams et al. (2000), Peng and Shi (2008) and Holmer and Bengtson (2009).
