Westonia was named by Walcott (1901) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto O Cara Sepkoski's reference number: 538].

It was assigned to Obolinae by Mason (1935) and Williams et al. (2000); and to Lingulida by Bengtson (1992) and Sepkoski (2002).
