Taxonomy
Mytilus ornatus was named by d'Orbigny (1844). It is not extant. It is the type species of Lecompteus.

It was recombined as Lecompteus ornatus by Poel (1959); it was recombined as Brachidontes ornatissimus by El Qot (2006).
