Taxonomy
Acrothyra was named by Mathew (1901) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto-l Cm lMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 885]. Its type is Acrotreta proavia.

It was assigned to Acrotretida by Bengtson (1992) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Acrotretidae by Williams et al. (2000) and Landing et al. (2008).
