Ammonites eryx was named by Munster (1834).

It was recombined as Goniatites eryx by Münster (1841); it was recombined as Badiotites eryx by von Mojsisovics (1882), Ogilvie Gordon (1927), Spath (1951) and Mietto and Manfrin (2008).
