Taxonomy
Botsfordia was named by Matthew (1891) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u Cm mMid Sepkoski's reference number: 15,16,1066]. It is the type genus of Botsfordiidae.

It was assigned to Acrotretida by Bengtson (1992) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Botsfordiidae by Schindewolf (1955), Williams et al. (2000) and Skovsted and Holmer (2005).
