Holocentropus peregrinator was named by Ivanov and Melnitsky (2013). Its type specimen is PIN 364/195, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic amber (PIN collection 364), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in Lithuania.
