Gymnotoceras rotelliformis

Taxonomy

Gymnotoceras rotelliforme was named by Meek (1877). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Buena Vista Canon, West Humboldt Range, which is in a Bithynian/Illyrian carbonate limestone in Nevada.

It was recombined as Beyrichites rotelliformis by Smith (1904), Hyatt and Smith (1905), Smith (1914), Spath (1934) and Bando (1964); it was corrected as Gymnotoceras rotelliformis by Silberling and Nichols (1982), Dagis et al. (1996) and Monnet and Bucher (2005).

Ceratites argentarius was named by Smith (1914).

It was recombined as Philippites argentarius by Spath (1934); it was synonymized subjectively with Gymnotoceras rotelliforme by Monnet and Bucher (2005).
Beyrichites tenuis was named by Smith (1914). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Divide between Troy Canyon and South Fork of American Canyon (rotelliformis), which is in an Illyrian marine limestone in Nevada.

It was synonymized subjectively with Gymnotoceras rotelliformis by Silberling and Nichols (1982) and Monnet and Bucher (2005).
Gymnotoceras smithi was named by Tozer (1994). Its type specimen is GSC 28326 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is GSC 74724, Chischa River, which is in an Illyrian marine siliciclastic in the Toad Formation of Canada.

It was synonymized subjectively with Gymnotoceras rotelliforme by Monnet and Bucher (2005).
Ceratites (Phillipites) argentarius was named by Smith (1914). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Divide between Troy Canyon and South Fork of American Canyon (rotelliformis), which is in an Illyrian marine limestone in Nevada.

It was synonymized subjectively with Gymnotoceras rotelliformis by Silberling and Nichols (1982).
