Taxonomy
Arcestes gabbi was named by Meek (1877). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cottonwood Canon, West Humboldt Range, which is in an Illyrian/Fassanian carbonate limestone in Nevada.
It was recombined as Arcestes (Proarcestes) gabbi by Smith (1914); it was recombined as Proarcestes gabbi by Silberling and Nichols (1982).
