Taxonomy
Spirifer homfrayi was named by Gabb (1864). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Star Canon near mill, Humboldt, which is in a Lacian carbonate limestone in the Dun Glen Formation of Nevada.

It was recombined as Spiriferina homfrayi by Smith (1914).
