Westralicrania was named by Cockbain (1967) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than Sepkoski's reference number: 405,538]. Its type is Westralicrania allani.

It was synonymized subjectively with Danocrania by Williams et al. (2000).

It was assigned to Craniidae by Craig (2000); and to Acrotretida by Sepkoski (2002).
