Dictyonina was named by Cooper (1942) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto Cm mMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. Its type is Trematis pannulus.

It was assigned to Paterinidae by Bruton and Harper (2000) and Williams et al. (2000); and to Paterinida by Bengtson (1992) and Sepkoski (2002).
