Proptychites oldhamianus was named by Waagen (1895). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Nammal Gorge, road from Namal to Moosakheyl, Salt Range, which is in a Dienerian carbonate limestone in the Lower Ceratite Limestone Formation of Pakistan.
