Pseudoaulophacus was named by Pessagno (1963) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-u K Maes-u]. It is the type genus of Pseudoaulophacidae, Pseudoaulophacinae.
It was assigned to Pseudoaulophacidae by Zügel (1997); to Pseudoaulophacinae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
