Yorkia was named by Walcott (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto Cm uMid-l Sepkoski's reference number: 4,23,1050]. Its type is Yorkia wanneri.

It was assigned to Obolellida by Bengtson (1992); to Kutorginidae by Williams et al. (2000); to Kutorginida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Yorkiidae by Wotte and Mergl (2007).
