Koninckites gigas was named by Waagen (1895). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Choa, Salt Range, which is in a Dienerian marine sandstone in the Ceratite Sandstone Formation of Pakistan.
It was recombined as Prionolobus gigas by Frech (1905); it was recombined as Paranorites gigas by Spath (1934).
