Taxonomy
Lecanites ophioneus was named by Waagen (1895). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Chidroo, upper Ceratite Sandstone (Flemingites beds), Salt Range, which is in a Smithian marine sandstone in the Ceratite Sandstone Formation of Pakistan.

It was recombined as Xenodiscus ophioneus by Welter (1922).
