Taxonomy
Trematobolus was named by Matthew (1893) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u Cm mMid Sepkoski's reference number: 1,2,23]. It is the type genus of Trematobolidae.

It was assigned to Obolellidae by Cooper (1976) and Geyer (1994); to Trematobolidae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Obolellida by Bengtson (1992) and Sepkoski (2002).
