Taxonomy
Anomalorthis was named by Ulrich and Cooper (1936). Its type is Anomalorthis utahensis.

It was assigned to Orthida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Anomalorthidae by Williams et al. (2000) and Hansen and Holmer (2011).
