Taxonomy
Apomatella was named by Schuchert and Cooper (1931). Its type is Orthisina ingrica.

It was assigned to Atelelasmatinae by Rubel and Popov (1994); to Clitambonitidae by Opik (1934) and Williams et al. (2000); and to Orthida by Sepkoski (2002).
