Taxonomy
Phylloceras calais was named by Meneghini (1874).

It was recombined as Phylloceras (Calaiceras) calais by Blau and Meister (1991); it was recombined as Calaiceras calais by Géczy and Meister (1998), Rakús and Guex (2002), Meister and Friebe (2003), Geczy and Meister (2007) and Meister et al. (2011).
