Amphiceras aegoceroides was named by Gemmellaro (1884).

It was recombined as Gemmellaroceras aegoceroides by Bremer (1965); it was recombined as Galaticeras aegoceroides by Blau (1998), Rakús and Guex (2002), Geczy and Meister (2007) and Meister et al. (2011).
