Eridorthis was named by Foerste (1909). Its type is Plectorthis nicklesi.

It was assigned to Glyptorthinae by Mitchell (1977) and Potter (1990); to Glyptorthidae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Orthida by Sepkoski (2002).
