Taxonomy
Hesperonomia was named by Ulrich and Cooper (1936). Its type is Hesperonomia planidorsalis.

It was assigned to Orthida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Hesperonomiidae by Williams et al. (2000), Benedetto (2003) and Hansen and Holmer (2011).
