Taxonomy
Chelone meyeri was named by Tholliere (1851). Its type specimen is MHNL 20015611, a partial shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cerin, Jura, which is in a Kimmeridgian terrestrial horizon in France.

It was recombined as Hydropelta meyeri by Meyer (1860), Rütimeyer (1873), Lortet (1892) and Anquetin et al. (2017).

J. Anquetin et al. 2017Hydropelta meyeri differs from all other “eurysternids” by the presence of relatively well-developed costo-peripheral fontanelles, an elongated and pointed anterior plastral lobe, a long posterior entoplastral process, and a large lateral plastral fontanelle.
