Arca vancouverensis was named by Meek (1858).

It was recombined as Grammatodon vancouverensis by Meek (1876); it was recombined as Nemodon vancouverensis by Whiteaves (1879), Whiteaves (1903) and Anderson and Hanna (1935); it was recombined as Parallelodon (Nanonavis) vancouverensis by Reinhart (1937) and Anderson (1958); it was recombined as Indogrammatodon vancouverensis by Elder and Saul (1993).
