Taxonomy
Proplatypeza caelebs was named by Mostovski (1995). Its type specimen is PIN 3064/9012, an exoskeleton (male fly), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Baissa (PIN collection 3064, bed 15), which is in an Aptian lacustrine - large marl/siltstone in the Zaza Formation of the Russian Federation.
