Taxonomy
Lepidotes macropterus was named by Yabumoto (1994). Its type specimen is KMNH VP100,146, a partial skeleton (middle part of the body, anterior and posterior missing), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is First formation (TO-1), which is in a Neocomian terrestrial conglomerate/shale in the First Formation of Japan.
