Parenteletes was named by King (1931) [Sepkoski's age data: C Step P Djhu Sepkoski's reference number: 411,538]. Its type is Parenteletes cooperi.

It was assigned to Enteletidae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Orthida by Sepkoski (2002).
