Merkurosaurus ornatus
Taxonomy
Merkurosaurus ornatus was named by Klembara (2008). Its type specimen is [Nat. Mus. Prague] Pb 02045, a partial skull (an isolated parietal bone), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Merkur-North, which is in an Orleanian fluvial-lacustrine marl/coal in the Most Formation of the Czech Republic. It is the type species of Merkurosaurus.

J. Klembara 2008 | A lizard of small adult size (as Recent Shinisaurus). Unique features are: (1) nasal process of premaxilla long, slender, with bilaterally constricted shaft and widened dorsal portion; dorsal portion terminates in three distinct processes of which the median one is the longest and most pointed; and (2) ornamented surface of parietal subdivided into five mounds on both right and left sides, with one mound around posterior and lateral margins of parietal foramen. |
