Taxonomy
Ammonites tortus was named by Quenstedt (1885). It is the type species of Derolytoceras.

It was recombined as Derolytoceras tortum by Wiedmann (1970), Meister (1986), Meister (1989), Blau and Meister (1991), Géczy and Meister (1998) and Meister and Friebe (2003).
