Taxonomy
Thyroptera robusta was named by Czaplewski (1997). It is extant. Its type specimen is IGM 252876, a tooth (right upper M1). Its type locality is Duke Locality 22, which is in a Laventan fluvial mudstone/sandstone in the Villavieja Formation of Colombia.

N. J. Czaplewski 1997Thyroptera with large teeth, exceeding the teeth of T. tricolor (and the La Venta fossils hereir refered to T. cf. T. tricolor) in measurements by about 4 - 32%. The teeth of T. robusta esceed those T. discifera in variuos dimensions by 21 - 50%.
