Sestrostomella was named by Zittel (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-u K Albi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 978]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Sestrostomellidae.
It was assigned to Pharetronida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sestrostomellidae by Finks et al. (2004) and Amirhassankhani et al. (2014).
