Encrinus (Cassianocrinus) tetarakontadactylus was named by Laube (1865). It is the type species of Encrinus (Cassianocrinus).

It was synonymized subjectively with Cassianocrinus varians by Hagdorn (2004); it was recombined as Cassianocrinus tetarakontadactylus by Hess and Messing (2011).
