Apiocrinites granulosus was named by Münster (1834).

It was recombined as Encrinus granulosus by Münster (1841), Laube (1865) and von Wöhrmann (1889); it was recombined as Encrinus (Entrochus) granulosus by Broili (1904); it was recombined as Zardinicrinus granulosus by Hagdorn (2004), Hess and Messing (2011) and Jaselli and Pieroni (2023).
