Trochus maximiliani was named by Klipstein (1843) [Trochus maximiliani leuchtenbergensis]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is St. Cassian (Klipstein BMNH coll), which is in a Julian carbonate limestone in the Cassian Formation of Italy.
