Amphistrophiella was named by Harper and Boucot (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl D Gedi Sepkoski's reference number: 538].

It was reranked as Amphistrophia (Amphistrophiella) by Vladimirskaya and Kulkov (1999) and Williams et al. (2000).

It was assigned to Amphistrophia by Vladimirskaya and Kulkov (1999) and Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
