Taxonomy
Ammonites rotundus was named by Quenstedt (1845) [Ammonites natrix rotundus].

It was recombined as Crucilobiceras rotundum by Schlatter (1977); it was recombined as Platypleuroceras rotundum by Meister (1986), Alkaya and Meister (1995) and Meister and Friebe (2003).
