Eumegamys was named by Kraglievich (1926). Its type is Eumegamys paranensis.

It was assigned to Dinomyidae by Linares (2004).

It was synonymized subjectively with Euphilus by Ameghino (1891); it was synonymized subjectively with Eumegamys by McKenna and Bell (1997).

It was assigned to Eryomyina by Ameghino (1885); and to Viscacciidae by Rovereto (1914).
