Trochammina was named by Parker and Jones (1859) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise R Sepkoski's reference number: 537]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Trochamminidae by Asano (1949) and Morlotti (1988); to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Trochammininae by Cushman (1927), Sepkoski (2002) and Margerel (2012).
