Phalangiotarbi was named by Haase (1890).

It was replaced with Architarbi by Petrunkevitch (1945); it was reranked as the order Phalangiotarbida by Dunlop et al. (2013).

It was assigned to Opiliones by Haase (1890); and to Arachnida by Dunlop et al. (2013).
