Eodipoena bassleri was named by Petrunkevitch (1942). It is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic Amber (USNM collection), which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.
It was recombined as Eomysmena bassleri by Petrunkevitch (1958), Marusik and Penney (2004) and Dunlop et al. (2013).
