Cooperina was named by Termier (1967) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 7,538]. It is not extant. Its type is Cooperina inexpectata. It is the type genus of Cooperininae, Cooperinidae.
It was assigned to Cooperininae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
