Taxonomy
Tethneus twenhofeli was named by Petrunkevitch (1922). Its type specimen is YPM 25588, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Florissant (Twenhofel collection, University of Kansas), which is in a Chadronian lacustrine - large shale in Colorado.
